Dog Training at Muddy Hounds
We know how rewarding it can be to have a well-behaved pooch, as well as a great bonding opportunity for you and your dog. Your relationship with your dog is an important part of dog training, this is because you should build a good strong relationship with your furry friend to ensure there is trust with one another. Whether you have a young or old dog, they will benefit from learning some basic commands such as sit, down and leave.
What are the benefits of training my dog?
Teaching your dog basic training around the house is a great starting point as this allows your dog to focus on your commands, in a familiar location. Not only will this help your dog in the outside world but can help form an everlasting bond with you and your pooch.
By teaching your dog commands such as sit, wait and responding to their name- this can help them focus on training whilst out and about. This can help protect your flurry friend against risky situations. Recall is one of the most important lessons for your doggo to learn. This is because if you are in-charge at home and your dog can perform simple recall tasks, your dog will recognise that this is important in their life outside of the home. This will help them stay safe and under-control. Dogs are intelligent animals that can learn many skills, although patience and will power is needed, it will be worth the time spent when you have a trained dog, where you can enjoy their time.
How do dogs learn?
โ
Dogs learn best with reward based learning, this means giving your dog treats on the correct commands to re-enforces positive behaviour, especially when your dog gets their favourite treat, toy or attention. This helps dogs associate positive behaviour and they are more likely to do it again. This is a great opportunity to learn what your dogs favourite treats or toys are, as then you can utilise their good behaviour and reward this. If you’d like some ideas on what could be the best treats for your dogs, often we find its a small piece of cheese or meat. Often these are high reward treats and can be used to support training your dog. When they begin to follow your commands and get theses high value treats, they often want to do the same behaviours again and again. The better the reward, the more your dog will enjoy training and learning!
